How do PDO Threads work?

PDO stands for polydioxanone, which is a flexible polymer that the suture threads are made from. It is flexible, durable, and can be absorbed by the body. While PDO threads come in various textures, treatments are split into two main types: lifting or smoothing. Lifting threads involve using sutures with small barbs that are inserted under the surface of the skin, providing lifting and repositioning of facial tissue. Smooth PDO threads are inserted under the surface of the skin and are used to treat volume loss, surface wrinkles, crepey skin, and acne scarring.

What is treatment like?

Before treatment, local anesthesia is used to numb the treatment area. The patient’s skin will be marked in preparation for inserting the sutures. The PDO threads are in a cannula, which will be pushed under the skin to place the threads. This process is repeated until the desired lift is achieved, which usually takes 3-4 threads depending on the concern that is being addressed.
