Treatment Options for the Following:
What are chemical peels?
Chemical peels are an in-office procedure that uses an acidic solution to remove the top layer(s) of skin to reveal more youthful vibrant skin. Essentially we are creating a controlled injury to the skin to cause an effect; speed up cell turnover, boost collagen, help with fine lines and wrinkles.
Peels can treat an array of issues such as pigmentation, acne, melasma, age spots, sun damage, fines lines, and wrinkles.
Chemical peels are very customizable to the individual making them a very popular treatment.
How do chemical peels work?
Chemical peels work by exfoliating the top layer or layers of skin. This causes the skin cells to shed making way for new cells to appear.
Depending on the type of chemical peel it will fall into one of three categories:
What is treatment like?
Chemical peels are amongst the most popular treatments to have and have one of the highest ratings. During treatment, the skin is gently washed to clean away any dirt. Following cleaning, the chemical peel solution is applied to the skin and depending on the type of peel will determine how long the solution stays on the skin. Once the treatment is complete a solution will be applied to neutralize the chemical peel solution. A cold water compress is applied, followed by appropriate skincare.
*During a peel, and depending on the type of feel, it is normal for the skin to have sensations of stinging, burning or itching. Discomfort can be controlled by a small fan.
Chemical peel aftercare instructions
Following the first few days after treatment, it is normal for the skin to feel dry and even look sunburnt. The skin will start to peel and that is normal. It is pertinent that the skin peels naturally and that it is not “picked”. Picking the peeling skin before it falls off naturally can cause damage to the new skin.
To ensure the skin is cared for correctly make sure to follow the post procurement guidelines provided by your provider. Since chemical peels are so customized, post procedure guidelines may vary from person to person.
